Robertson requests trade after solid season with Maple Leafs

Nick Robertson tallied 14 goals and 13 assists across 56 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. The 22-year-old forward reportedly asked for a trade this summer, leading to a contract holdout as negotiations stalled.
Robertson was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the second round, 53rd overall, in the 2019 NHL draft. A native of Pasadena, Calif., his entry-level contract ended after last season, leaving his future in Toronto uncertain. Over his career, Robertson has recorded 17 goals and 17 assists in 87 NHL games, frequently alternating between the Leafs and the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

The young forward will enter training camp with a chance to claim a more prominent role under new head coach Craig Berube. The opportunity comes as Toronto adjusts to the departure of winger Tyler Bertuzzi, who signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in the off-season.
