Berkly Catton wasted no time displaying his high-end offensive talent at his first development camp with the Seattle Kraken last week. The 18-year-old center, selected eighth overall in the 2024 NHL Draft, dazzled in drills and scrimmages, leaving a lasting impression with his elite stickhandling and playmaking.
Kraken coach Dan Bylsma praised Catton's dynamic play. "In the scrimmages, you saw how dynamic he is. He's a playmaker, quick with his stick. It was great to see his skill and ability on full display," Bylsma said.
Hailing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Catton led the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL with 116 points (54 goals, 62 assists) last season. His familiarity with the local hockey market in Seattle, having frequently played against the Thunderbirds and Silvertips, created a sense of comfort joining the Kraken.
Catton's skills have impressed others, including Everett defenseman Kaden Hammell, who noted, «Catton's phenomenal. My job was to shut him down, but he's a [heck] of a player. He reads the ice so well.»
