The Coachella Valley Firebirds, Seattle Kraken's AHL affiliate, have signed former second-round pick Cam Morrison to an AHL contract, aiming to bolster their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Morrison, selected 40th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2016 NHL Draft, is still in pursuit of his NHL debut. After being drafted, he spent four years developing his game at the University of Notre Dame, where he posted 44 goals and 95 points across 149 games. Following his NCAA career, Morrison joined the Rockford IceHogs to begin his professional journey.
Last season, the 25-year-old forward played for the Charlotte Checkers, the Florida Panthers' AHL affiliate. Over 45 games, Morrison managed to score five goals and total 11 points. Despite these contributions, his AHL production hasn't matched his collegiate output-where he averaged 0.64 points per game compared to his current 0.33 in the AHL.
Listed at 6'3" and 209 lbs, Morrison is a left-handed winger known for his size and defensive reliability. While his offensive numbers have not reached the same level as during his college years, he remains a potential asset for the Firebirds. Morrison's ability to bring a strong defensive presence and his speed on the ice make him a candidate for a valuable bottom-six role. If he can find consistency and contribute more offensively, he could become a key figure in Coachella Valley's lineup.
