At the end of most NHL development camps, prospects usually participate in a scrimmage against each other. In July 2023, the Seattle Kraken established the «Stucky Cup,» named after James Stucky, the Kraken's Assistant Equipment Manager.
Players are divided into two teams, Team Blue and Team White, for a 5-on-5 scrimmage. After the game, Stucky presents the cup to the winning team's captain. Team Blue has won the Stucky Cup both years. Additional awards are given out as well. This year, Ty Nelson, the Kraken's 2022 draft pick and captain of Team Blue, was named Stucky Cup Champion for the second year in a row.
The trophy is only about 20 inches tall but will grow as the tradition continues, with each player's name engraved on it each year. Attendance for the Stucky Cup has grown as well, with around 400 people filling the Starbucks rink at the Kraken Iceplex this year.
