The Kraken Community Iceplex (KCI) was packed with nearly 500 fans on the final day of the Kraken Development Camp. This three-day event offers young hockey players a chance to practice with their peers and develop essential skills for their professional careers.
Participants come from around the world, including those drafted by the team during the NHL draft. Among the invitees were Julius Miettinen, the Kraken's 2024 2nd-round draft pick, and Kaden Hammell, a 2023 Kraken prospect, both from the local WHL team, the Everett Silvertips. Many fans sported Silvertips jerseys in the crowd.
At the camp's conclusion, rookies were divided into two teams for a 40-minute scrimmage called the "Stucky Cup," named after Kraken equipment manager James Stucky.
Before the game, Kraken GM Ron Francis announced that Berkly Catton, their first-round draft pick, had been offered an entry-level contract. Catton celebrated by signing a stuffed salmon and tossing it into the stands.
Although the new head coach, Dan Bylsma, wasn't present, Jessica Campbell, who made history this week as the first woman on an NHL bench as assistant coach for the Seattle Kraken, was seen observing the players on the ice.
Following the Stucky Cup, fans enjoyed a BBQ on the KCI lawn. Despite the 90-degree heat, fans of all ages eagerly awaited the chance to meet their favorite rookie players.
