Former Kraken Captain Mark Giordano Determined to Extend His Career
Brought over in the expansion draft and chosen as the first and only captain of the Seattle Kraken, Mark Giordano has decided against retirement, though his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs remains uncertain.
At 40 years old, Giordano is no stranger to the game, boasting a career spanning 1148 games, 158 goals, and 577 points. During his single season with the Kraken, he notched six goals and 23 points in 55 games.
While no official statements have been made regarding the Maple Leafs' disinterest in re-signing the veteran defenseman, Giordano's place in the team's future plans appears uncertain. Despite this, Giordano, a Toronto native, has previously shown willingness to sign contracts below his market value to stay with his hometown team and would likely do so again.

In a recent report by Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star, Giordano's determination to continue his professional hockey career was highlighted. His agent, Rich Winter, stated, «Mark has made the decision that he's playing for a few more years. He feels very confident. He's been talking to a lot of people who tell him: Don't quit until they make you.»
Known for his leadership and team spirit, Giordano holds the record for all-time blocked shots, won a Norris Trophy in the 2018-19 season, and has always been adaptable to various roles. Despite being undrafted, he has had seasons where he ranked among the league leaders in ice time and, as the oldest player in the NHL, remains ready to contribute in any capacity to help his team win.
If his tenure with the Maple Leafs ends, any NHL team would be fortunate to have Giordano on their roster.
