Seattle Kraken's Shane Wright Named to AHL Top Prospects Team

Shane Wright of the Seattle Kraken has been named to the AHL Top Prospects Team after an impressive season. Wright scored 22 goals and tallied 47 points in 59 games, earning his place alongside notable players like Logan Stankoven, Jiri Kulich, Brant Clarke, Simon Edvinsson, and Yaroslav Askarov.
Selected fourth overall by the Kraken in the 2022 NHL Draft, Wright was a dominant player in the OHL, where he was granted exceptional status to play as a 15-year-old. While some expected him to make an immediate impact in the NHL like Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard, it's important to recognize that player development varies. At 20 years old, Wright's steady progress has been acknowledged with his inclusion in the Top Prospects Team, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The Coachella Valley Firebirds, Wright's AHL team, are in the Calder Cup finals for the second consecutive year and will face the Hershey Bears again. Wright has been sidelined since Game 2 of the second round due to a hard, illegal hit. Despite his absence, the Firebirds have shown their depth, making it to the finals without one of their top players. Wright finished the season with the third most goals and the fifth most points on the team.
Game 1 of the finals is set for Friday night, and there's hope that Wright might return to the lineup, boosting the Firebirds' chances of winning the Calder Cup.
