The Lightning traded for Ryan McDonagh earlier today which means they will also be taking on his $6.25 million contract for the next two seasons.
Taking on this cap hit will only leave the Lightning with $5 million meaning that re-signing Steven Stamkos in unlikely unless he takes a considerable pay cut.
#tblightning GM Julien BriseBois said they have enough cap space with McDonagh deal to sign Steven Stamkos and that talks are ongoing. "We still have some cap space to get done what I think we need to get done this offseason."
With Stamkos likely becoming a free agent and the Kraken have $22.2 million in available cap space for next season which means they have more than enough money to try and sign Stamkos.
While the former lightning captain is at the end of his career, he was still able to put up 40 goals this season meaning he still has a lot left in the tank. adding a 40 goal scorer and former Stanley Cup Champion to the Kraken roster can only help.
