The Score's analyst predicts who will be Kraken's captain

The Seattle Kraken, entering their third NHL season, continue to evolve and build their identity. With a dynamic roster and a passionate fan base, the team has been working hard to establish itself as a competitive force in the league. As they approach the new season, one of the key decisions facing the Kraken is the appointment of their next captain. The leadership role, previously held by Mark Giordano, has been vacant for two seasons. Many believe it's time for the Kraken to appoint a new captain, and Yanni Gourde stands out as a prime candidate for this crucial position.

This is easily the toughest of the six vacancies to predict. The Kraken may opt not to name a captain for the third straight season. It's also entirely possible that their next captain isn't even on the roster right now.

However, we believe it would benefit them to name one, and Gourde is arguably the most deserving. An original member of the Kraken, he's one of four players to share an "A" since the team's inaugural season, along with Jaden Schwartz, Jordan Eberle, and Adam Larsson. Each of those three have strong cases of their own, but we give Gourde a slight edge.

Gourde is tenacious. He plays in all situations. An undrafted player, he sets a strong example by giving everything he has every single shift. The only thing preventing him from being a more obvious pick is that he's entering the final year of his contract. But we believe he'll eventually sign an extension. Giving him the "C" could help convince him to re-sign, too.

Perhaps internally the Kraken view Matty Beniers as a future captain, but placing more pressure on the 2023 Calder Trophy winner after his sophomore slump would be a poor idea.
