The Rangers took on the Hurricanes last night in a heated battle that went into double overtime.
The big story from the game comes from a hit Rangers captain Jacob Trouba tried to deliver but missed as he left his feet and led with his elbow going at Martin Necas but missed going over the top of Necas.
One insider brought up that the NHL has a rule against attempting to injure which is a game misconduct penalty for a play that clearly show intent to injure which was the case on this play.
Per NHL rules: 'A match penalty shall be imposed on any player who deliberately attempts to injure or who deliberately injures an opponent in any manner.'
Not a minor or major. A match penalty. It's actually DEFINED by INTENT, not outcome.
And nothing
Trouba was clearly aiming for Necas' head on the hit as you see his elbow reach for the head but ultimately misses thankfully. If the Rangers captain would have connected, it would likely resulted in a concussion for the Hurricanes forward.
