Top Three Trade Destinations for Kings' Winger Arthur Kaliyev

Los Angeles Kings winger Arthur Kaliyev is rumored to want a trade, and while many teams would be interested in acquiring the 23-year-old, some make more sense than others. Here are the top three potential trade destinations for Kaliyev:
1. Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens are in the midst of a rebuild, and GM Kent Hughes might see Kaliyev as a worthwhile gamble. Moving to Montreal would put Kaliyev in a high-pressure environment, which could help him realize his potential. His last contract had an annual salary of $894,000, and his status as a distressed asset means Hughes wouldn't have to pay much to acquire him. Montreal's timeline for becoming a playoff contender gives Kaliyev time to develop into an above-average NHLer. The right combination of draft picks and prospects could get a deal done, making this a win-win for both Kaliyev and the Habs.
2. San Jose Sharks
The Sharks are also rebuilding, and GM Mike Grier is focused on collecting young talent. Staying in California with the Sharks might appeal to Kaliyev, who wouldn't face immediate pressure to lead the team in scoring. His modest 2023-24 totalsseven goals and 15 points in 51 gameswould place him in a middle-six role, with opportunities to play alongside emerging centers like Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith. The lack of intense media scrutiny in San Jose could help Kaliyev develop at his own pace, making the Sharks a better fit than the win-now Kings.
3. Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche are over the salary cap and still need to fill roster spots. GM Chris MacFarland might look to acquire Kaliyev as a bargain, similar to how he signed Jonathan Drouin last year. On a team with superstars like Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar, Kaliyev could showcase why he was picked 33rd overall in the 2019 draft. While the Avs are in win-now mode, they excel at finding and developing under-the-radar talent. Playing for a contender like Colorado would be a great opportunity for Kaliyev to grow his game and set himself up for a better payday in the future.
