In a surprising turn of events, Zach Aston-Reese, who was facing uncertainty about securing an NHL contract for the 2023-24 season, has inked a new one-year deal.

Aston-Reese, boasting over three hundred NHL games under his belt, was released from a professional tryout contract with the Carolina Hurricanes last Friday, leaving his future in limbo as the new season loomed.
However, he has now found a new home with the Detroit Red Wings. The deal is of the two-way variety, guaranteeing him $775,000 in the NHL and a steady $350,000 in the AHL.
Last season, Aston-Reese appeared in 77 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs but wasn't brought back when the playoffs concluded.
His NHL journey began in Pittsburgh, where he spent the majority of his career, with a brief 17-game stint in Anaheim following the 2022 trade deadline.
While he may not be a game-changer, Aston-Reese adds valuable depth to any team, serving as insurance against injuries and unforeseen circumstances.
