The Coachella Valley Firebirds have a member of their coaching staff making hockey history.
Jessica Campbell, assistant coach of the Firebirds, is the first ever female assistant coach in the AHL.
She was hired by the team in July 2022, being a part of the Firebirds team that went 48-17-5.
Campbell played for Cornell University's women's hockey team before going professional, playing for the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.
She would then take her talents to Sweden, playing for Malmo Redhawks in the Swedish Women's Hockey League.
Her coaching career began in the USHL for the Tri-City Storm before going to Germany to coach for the Nurnberg Ice Tigers in the DEL.
Campbell was a member of Team Germany's staff in the 2022 IIHF World Championships, coaching NHL players such as Ottawa's Tim Stutzle, Detroit's Moritz Seider, Chicago's Lukas Reichel, and Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer.
Making her way behind the bench for the Kraken in an NHL preseason game, Campbell has eyes on making the jump to the NHL full-time and never looking back.
