Analyzing the Kraken's New Offseason Additions

The Seattle Kraken have made several signings since July 1, two of which stand out significantly. These additions aim to strengthen the team's playoff prospects.

Fresh from winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, defenseman Brandon Montour is now with the Kraken. Montour shared his enthusiasm for joining Seattle, saying, "It was all about the love. They want me to be a big part of what they have going forward, and that excited me and my family."

Last season, Montour scored eight goals and 25 assists, and in the playoffs, he contributed three goals and eight assists, with 36 blocked shots and 48 hits. His impactful performance was pivotal for the Panthers.

Entering his ninth NHL season and his fourth team, the 30-year-old defenseman brings experience and skill to a Kraken team still carving out its identity. Montour's presence could be crucial for improving Seattle's defense and goaltending.

Joining Montour is Chandler Stephenson, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights. Stephenson now aims to win a third championship with Seattle, a rare feat in NHL history.

Last season, Stephenson scored 16 goals and added 35 assists, totaling 51 points. While a bit under his previous two 60-point seasons, his versatility as a second-line center and power-play contributor makes him a valuable addition to the Kraken.

With four goals and nine assists on the power play last season, Stephenson's role in boosting Seattle's special teams will be critical. Fans hope he regains his top form to help lead the Kraken to playoff success.
