Tye Kartye's Potential to Elevate Role with Kraken

Tye Kartye became a full-time Seattle Kraken player during the 2023-24 season and has the potential to elevate his role next year by enhancing his offensive game.
Kartye scored 11 goals and 20 points in 77 games, providing the Kraken with a decent offensive boost in limited minutes. However, to secure a more definitive role on the team, he'll need to contribute more consistently.
At 23 years old, Kartye brought versatility to the Kraken, acting as a plug-and-play forward for former head coach Dave Hakstol. He mainly played in the bottom six, using his energy and feistiness to irritate opponents. Occasionally, he played alongside Matty Beniers, utilizing his skill and forechecking ability to assist.
Kartye has demonstrated his scoring ability in both the AHL with the Coachella Valley Firebirds and the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds. His rookie NHL season was about finding his role, but in his second season, he needs to prove he can be a consistent third-line contributor. His 6'1" frame allows him to be physical and aggressive on the forecheck, traits essential for an effective third line.
The Kraken bolstered their lineup by signing Chandler Stephenson, allowing them to deploy Beniers, Stephenson, and Shane Wright in their top nine. As the youngest winger on the team, Kartye has an opportunity to gain more ice time, especially as veterans like Jaden Schwartz, Jordan Eberle, and Brandon Tanev age.
Kartye could start on a checking line with Yanni Gourde and Tanev or play alongside Shane Wright and Oliver Bjorkstrand. His performance will determine his role.
If the Kraken aim to return to the playoffs, they'll need a collective scoring effort like in the 2022-23 season, and Kartye must be a key part of that effort.
