The Seattle Kraken have secured their future by signing Matty Beniers to a long-term deal. On Tuesday, Beniers agreed to a seven-year, $49.98 million contract extension with the Kraken, which carries an average annual value of $7.14 million.
Matty has been a critical piece of our team since his NHL debut. His impact stretches beyond the ice, into our community and with our fans,
said Kraken GM
Ron Francis.
Signing Matty was a top priority this offseason, and we're thrilled to have it completed. We're excited to see him continue to grow and contribute to more great moments for our franchise.
At 21 years old, Beniers was a restricted free agent this summer after completing his three-year entry-level deal. As Seattle's first-ever draft pick, taken second overall in 2021, Beniers has scored 42 goals and amassed 103 points across 167 games since going pro in 2022.
In the 2023-24 season, Beniers played 77 games, tallying 15 goals and 22 assists for a total of 37 points.

Drafted second overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, Beniers showcased his potential as one of the league's top young centers during his first full season, where he collected 24 goals and 57 points. His standout rookie campaign helped lead Seattle to the playoffs in just its second season, and earned him recognition as the league's top rookie.
However, the Kraken and Beniers faced challenges last season. The team struggled with offensive consistency, and Beniers' production dipped to 15 goals and 37 points, with his shooting percentage dropping from 16.2% in 2022-23 to 11.3%.
With new head coach Dan Bylsma at the helm, Seattle is hopeful that Beniers will rediscover his offensive prowess from his rookie season. The Kraken's struggles last season stemmed from their lack of scoring, averaging just 2.61 goals per game while being held to zero or one goal in 27 of their 82 games.
A return to consistent scoring from Beniers would be a significant step in improving Seattle's offense. He didn't score his first goal until game 14 last season and posted only 19 points in the first 45 games before the All-Star break.
This extension for
Beniers is identical in length and value to defenseman
Brandon Montour's deal, which was signed during free agency this summer.
