THN Draft Suggests Seattle Kraken Focus on Defense
Seattle Kraken Urged to Prioritize Defense in Upcoming Draft
Age may be just a number, but according to a revealing stat from THN's Draft Preview Issue, it's a number that could pose challenges for the Seattle Kraken.
In its team-by-team breakdown (see photo above), the THN special issue highlights that "Seattle was the third-oldest team in the league, trailing only Pittsburgh and Edmonton."
"While that experience provided stability last season, it's clear that injecting some youthful energy into the roster could spark needed dynamism. Notably, Matty Beniers and
Tye Kartye were the only regulars who finished the season aged 24 or younger."

Among the many Kraken-specific insights in the issue, the "Long Term Needs" section also addresses the aging defense corps.
"GM Ron Francis has primarily focused on forwards in the early rounds of Seattle's first three drafts. Of the seven choices in the top 50, only
Ryker Evans plays defense. The only two blueline regulars under 30 are
Vince Dunn and Will Borgen, and both turn 28 later this year."
Given this, don't be surprised if the Kraken load up on defensemen with their five picks in the first three rounds of the upcoming draft.
Firebirds Continue Their Playoff Run
Switching to prospects, the Kraken's AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, are still in the hunt for the Calder Cup. The team has been practicing in Hershey, PA, while scouting the Eastern Conference Finals between the Bears and Cleveland Monsters.
We have photographic proof of Dan Bylsma, who impressively serves as the head coach for both the Firebirds and the Kraken, attending Game 7 at Giant Center Wednesday night. Bylsma, in a blue shirt and glasses, is seen leaning forward behind the railing.
Bylsma and his coaching staff witnessed the Bears clinch an overtime victory, setting up a Coachella Valley-Hershey Calder Cup Final rematch from 2023. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at 4 pm Pacific time.
