Buffalo Sabres defenseman Connor Clifton has been suspended for two games after an illegal check to the head on Devils captain Nico Hischier. Clifton signed with the Sabres over the summer after five seasons playing for the Boston Bruins. The 28 year-old signed a three-year contract with a $3,333,333 salary per year. Through eight games in Buffalo, Clifton has been held to one assist and is a minus six.

The Sabres have not had the start they were hoping for, sitting last in the Atlantic Division with a 3-5-0 record. Clifton's hit saw him trying to finish his check, it did not look as though he avoided hitting Hischier in the head. The hit has resulted in Hischier being out for the Devils matchup on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.
