After the initial report of Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto being suspended, more information has been released.
Pinto was suspended 41 games for violating the NHL's policy against betting.
Initially, it was believed that Pinto would not be able to serve his suspension until he signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators, as he is still a restricted free-agent.
However, this was not the case. Pinto's suspension would be served starting from the Senators first game of the season.
According to league sources, Pinto had an online gambling account that was valid in the United States, and was flagged by a partner company of the NHL.
Frank Seravalli reported that Pinto would not be filing an appeal of the suspension and that it was agreed upon prior to the announcement.
The NHL was unable to find evidence of Pinto betting on NHL games, otherwise the punishment would have been worse.
