Reports surfaced yesterday that Ducks forward Trevor Zegras maybe on the move to the Eastern Conference as the Montreal Canadiens are the team of choice.
Both teams are in their rebuilding phase and the Canadiens are further along than the ducks. Become clear that general manager Kent Hughes wants to accelerate his team in terms of development and competition as a player like Zegras would certainly help.
However, it appears that the cost two obtaining Zegras services maybe too much for Hughes to handle. The Ducks are asking for either Kaiden Guhle or David Reinbacher who have been drafted high by the Canadiens over the past couple of years.
It's certainly enticing to look at Zegras even though he had a top season with a major injury that kept him out for the majority of the second half. After posting two 60 plus point seasons from 2021 through 2023 and scoring 23 goals each year showed a consistent start to his career.
At 23 years old and standing at six foot 185 lbs he would give the Canadiens a huge boost down the middle along with some cost certainty as he would enter his second of his three-year deal that was worth $17.2 million. A player of his talent holding the cap hit at 5.75 million per season is certainly a bargain considering what he brings to the table.
In the end, it remains to be seen on whether Hughes and Verbeek are wanting to make this deal or some form of it but it appears that Zegras' time in Anaheim is coming to an end.
