Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov left Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals after suffering an injury to his jaw by an elbow from Oilers Leon Draisaitl.
The play occured in the third period when Barkov was attempting to clear the puck out of his own when Draisaitl skated straight at him and struck him in the jaw with his elbow. He quickly skated off the ice as he met the trainers who took him straight to the dressing room in which he never returned to the game.
Draisaitl was assessed a two-minute penalty for the play, but it remains to be seen on whether any further action from the NHL players and safety department will review this hit.
This series is beginning to heat up as both teams are ratcheting up their physical play and players are beginning to fall to injury. Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse took a major hit into the boards when Evan Rodrigues hit him with a heavy body check which caused nurse to hold his hip and not play much of the game.
The series will now switch to Edmonton where both games 3 and 4 will be played and with the physicality rising and the tempers are beginning to boil over it remains to be seen on how game three will unfold with the Oilers now down 2-0 in the series and losing Game 2 4-1.
