Matt Beniers is a fantastic young player for the Seattle Kraken. The 20-year-old put up strong numbers in his first season in the NHL, recording 57 points in 80 games and claiming the Calder Trophy as the best rookie last season. The second overall pick in 2021 has proven he will be a force int he NHL.
Beniers' projected 2023-24 season, according to Dom Luszczyszyn's model, has him scoring 28 goals, while finishing the year with 67 points. Beniers' value is very high, if the Kraken were to sign the young star to a 7-year deal, Beniers is projected to make $12 Million dollars per season.
According to Goldberg, this cap hit alone would account for 14% of the Kraken's cap space. The likely hood of this happening is very low. Kraken GM, Ron Francis has stayed away from big signings and will most likely push for a bridge deal that saves the team money in the short term.
It is important to note that this is just a projection and that we will see how Beniers performs this season. This will be a big part of what both Beniers and the Kraken are will expect from their contract negotiations. For now, both parties are focused on this season.
