Former 4th overall pick Shane Wright had a tough go of things to begin his career in the NHL. In the 2022-23 season, he only played in 8 games and had 2 points to show for it.

After all the drama surrounding Shane Wright and his supposed egoistical issues following poor interviews, he went from the projected first-overall pick to fourth-overall. Unfortunately, giving the Seattle Kraken the opportunity to draft him and see what he's all about did not play out the way they wanted, leading to him being sent down to the AHL. Where Shane Wright stayed for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign, with training camp kicking off Wright is looking to turn things around and earn a spot on the Kraken roster.
Shane Wright has been granted an exception from the CHL if he is unable to make the NHL, but that is not his worry right now, he wants to make this team.
Seattle Kraken GM Ron Francis told the Seattle Times that Wright has been granted an exemption that would bypass the NHL-CHL player transfer agreement and allow for him to play in the AHL if he doesn't make the team out of training camp.
"I don't have anything in writing saying I'm good, but it sounds like if we got to that point, it would be OK,"
Ron Francis said.
Either way, Shane Wright is focused on making this Kraken team, he would be a good addition to a cup-contending team.
